Mindfulness, put simply, means to be present: to live each moment with awareness, compassion, and a deep understanding of the importance of all beings, most importantly oneself.
Understanding mindfulness is one thing, but living mindfully, unfortunately, can be quite challenging. It is the nature of the human mind to worry about what has happened in the past, or to fret over the future.
Imagine yourself interacting with your favorite pet, holding a baby, appreciating a beautiful flower, sunrise or sunset. Think of how you feel while vacationing, when you step into the sunshine or onto a ski slope. These are moments of presence and awareness, and the reason they feel amazing is because awareness is pulled into the moment, and for a while, everything else disappears. The good news is, it is possible to live mindfully every day.
There are many ways to remind ourselves to be present as we go about our daily lives. Spending time in nature, practicing yoga, developing a meditation practice, or keeping positive and inspiring quotes and affirmations close by; these are a few useful tools for keeping our attention pulled into the now. You will find information on these and many other mindful practices within this site.
